The New Zealand City of Manukau won the 2002 LGMA Management Challenge held in Sydney in May against the winning teams from every Australian State.

It is the fourth New Zealand team to win in the nine-year history of the Challenge – a most remarkable effort.

In 2002 104 teams took part in Australian local government's most innovative, cost effective and work relevant professional development program.
